OCR Announces Delay in Enforcement of Certain HITECH Rules

On March 15, 2010, the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), the federal agency within the Department of Health and Human Services responsible for enforcing the HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, announced a delay in the enforcement of certain rules under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act.

Expansions of COBRA Subsidy, New Notices Required

On March 2, 2010, the Temporary Extension Act of 2010 (TEA) extended and expanded the COBRA premium subsidy program that was introduced in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). On April 15, 2010 that program was further extended with the passage of the Continuing Extension Act of 2010 (CEA).
